Welcome to the Long Island Small Farm Initiative Website
The Long Island Small Farm Initiative is a consortium that brings together a diverse group of Long Island organizations all sharing an interest in local food, land use, the farm-to-table chain, and the social interaction between farmers and community residents. The Initiative has the potential to connect thousands of like-minded people in Nassau and Suffolk Counties as well as in Westchester County and New York City. Our aim is to facilitate gatherings and dialogue among these groups and individuals in order to advance efforts to preserve local agriculture and to expand the sources of locally grown food for our community.
Small Farm Initiative Update
The Small Farm Initiative Steering committee met in Fall 2012 and determined that another Small Farm Summit in 2013 was just too ambitious. The consensus of the group was that the sustainable agricultural effort would be better served if we, in conjunction with our partners, planned a series of small events in 2013 leading up to a bigger, better Summit in 2014.
The success of the 2011 and 2012 Small Farm Summits must be attributed to the great effort of the stakeholder group. We are writing today to invite you to join us on Thursday, February 28th at Old Bethpage Restoration Village at noon to set the agenda for our 2013/2014 efforts. More>>
